Setting Realistic Goals in both Nutrition and Fitness
At the beginning of each of my consults, the first thing I do with everyone is talk through goal setting. Sometimes goal setting seems so easy…then you take on the challenge of said goal and you are literally struck with a fear of where do I begin.
Let’s make them so simple it’s silly! For example, if you walked into a nutrition consult with me and said weight loss this is what the conversation would look like;
You: I want weight loss to be my goal.
Me: Great, how much weight loss?
You: Twenty pounds.
Me: Sounds good. Now, when would you like to have this goal met?
You: My sister gets married in five months. I would like to have it off by then.
Me: Do you believe this is an achievable time span?
You: Yes, more than enough.
To help make this weight loss journey a reality, we would discuss that the twenty pounds being lost in five months would mean a monthly loss of four pounds, and we would continue to break that down into the one pound of weight lost per week. We would talk about what that would look like in both your nutritional intake and of course your physical activity.
I typically suggest weighing daily, and tracking it, meal planning, meal prepping at least one meal for the week, working out 20 minutes a day (3-4 days a week) as great starter goals.
Each person’s Nutritional needs will be as different as their Physical activity needs. It is a try and go, a see and do kind of beginning. What worked for you when you were younger may not work for you as you age. To many this is intimidating. Think of it as an adventure. Journal about it! Through your journey on social media, there are several of your friends who might even find it inspiring and start changing their lifestyle. Here at Health Sculptors I am here to support you through your nutritional and fitness needs.
